If you use the internet every day, you’ve probably run into annoying pop-ups, had difficultly browsing at one point, and maybe you’ve even gotten a virus, or spyware. You don’t have to browse unprotected anymore! There are a some very simple things you can do to protect yourself, which practically guarantees your safety when browsing just about any webpage on the internet…

1. Firefox (http://www.getfirefox.com)

Firefox is becoming the world’s #1 internet browser for it’s award winning safety and features. Firefox alone will increase your protection while browsing the web when compared to Internet Explorer. It is constantly being updated, and the development team is always looking for new ways to protect you from exploits and attacks. Firefox is a definite must have if you plan on browsing safely.

2. NoScript (Firefox Addon)

NoScript is a wonderful addon which will block scripts from running on every website you visit. The majority of scripts which run on websites are harmless, and are used for features of the website itself – but there are some malicious scripts that hide and lurk, which could prove to be potentially harmful to your computer. Not only will NoScript protect you from harmful scripts, but it will protect you from annoying ones too, as well as unneeded or unwanted scripts that aren’t required to view websites.

3. AdBlock Plus (Firefox Addon) (http://adblockplus.org/en/)

AdBlock Plus is similar to the NoScript addon – it’s essential for browsing because it successfully eliminates those annoying and persistent pop-up advertisements, as well as advertisement banners that take forever to load on your favorite web pages. This addon will provide a nice boost in speed, as you’ll notice web pages will load faster, since they no longer have to wait for and load advertisements.

4. Firewall

This one is primarily up to you, the reader. Having a firewall constantly turned on is necessary for whatever you do, especially web browsing. Firewalls will protect you from attacks, and unwanted information being sent to and from your machine. There are dozens of choices out there for you when it comes to choosing the right security program, but one of the most overlooked ones is the built in firewall that comes with Windows. It does its job wonderfully, and is free. If you have money to spend, you should definitely invest in a complete Internet Protection Package, that often times comes bundled with a firewall, and some sort of virus protection, but if all else fails, at least you’ll have the Windows firewall to back you up.

Protecting yourself while browsing the web isn’t as scary as it seems – it’s actually very simple, and easy! With these tips, you’ll be protected in no time. Enjoy browsing the internet while feeling secure.
