The first character of a letter is always Q, A or Z, specifying which row on a QWERTY keyboard the letter is on. The number preceding the letter is the position of the letter on a QWERTY keyboard from left to right along the row. For example, A1 is ‘A’, A2 is ‘S’, A3 is ‘D’ and so on.
